Lyten sets its sights on Poland: a strategic hub for batteries, energy, and AI
27 March 2026France is accelerating the development of an autonomous and competitive industrial battery value chain, a key element for the future of electric vehicles. On March 24, Minister Delegate for Industry Sébastien Martin announced the launch of the France Batterie initiative, a strategic project designed to strengthen national and European industrial sovereignty in the e-mobility sector.
The announcement was made during an official visit to the Automotive Cells Company gigafactory in Billy-Berclau, in the Hauts-de-France region, in the presence of the Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry. A symbolic setting: gigafactories are now the production backbone of electric vehicle batteries and represent a crucial hub in Europe’s energy transition.
As demand for electric cars continues to grow across Europe, control of the battery value chain is becoming increasingly strategic. Currently, a large share of global production is concentrated in Asia, making it essential for the European Union to develop its own industrial capacity in order to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and strengthen the competitiveness of the automotive sector.
A complete value chain to compete globally
France Batterie was created with this exact goal: to build a complete, integrated and sustainable battery value chain. The initiative brings together around 40 stakeholders, including industrial companies and French research centers, covering all stages of the value chain—from raw material extraction to cell production, vehicle integration and battery recycling.
This integrated approach makes it possible to develop a strong industrial ecosystem, capable of accelerating technological innovation and ensuring greater resilience for the European battery supply chain. The project is supported by the Strategic Committee for the New Energy Systems Sector, which coordinates industrial policies linked to the energy transition.
Another key pillar is sustainability. France Batterie aims to reduce the environmental impact of battery production and improve the lifecycle of materials, with a particular focus on recycling and the recovery of critical resources such as lithium, nickel and cobalt. This is essential to making the widespread adoption of electric vehicles truly sustainable.
The launch of France Batterie marks a decisive step for the future of electric mobility in Europe. Strengthening domestic battery production means supporting the growth of the electric vehicle market while also protecting jobs, innovation and competitiveness in a sector set to shape the automotive industry for decades to come.
