Stellantis Pro One launches electric vans in Europe at the same price as Diesel models
11 March 2026Volkswagen Group has reached a new milestone in the transition to zero-emission mobility: four million battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) delivered globally. This achievement solidifies the group among the top five electric car manufacturers worldwide and confirms its leadership in the European market, where it holds around 27% of BEV sales.
The journey toward electrification began in 2013 with the city car Volkswagen e-up!, followed in 2014 by the Volkswagen e-Golf. However, the real acceleration came in 2019 with the introduction of the Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform, the technical foundation on which approximately three million of the group’s electric vehicles have been built. The robustness of this architecture was symbolically celebrated at the Dresden plant, where Volkswagen delivered its two-millionth electric car: a Volkswagen ID.3, a model that represents one of the pillars of the ID. range and the brand’s electric transformation.
Today, the group offers one of the widest electric portfolios in the industry: over 30 battery-powered models in the passenger car segment alone. In the past two years, around 60 new models have been launched, one-third of which are fully electric, and more than 20 additional debuts are expected in 2026, about half of them battery-electric.
Group BEV production is spread across Europe, China, the United States and Brazil. Approximately 77% of the four million electric cars were produced in European plants, with key hubs such as Emden, Zwickau and Dresden. China, the world’s largest electric car market, accounts for about 20% of production and deliveries.
On the commercial side, Europe remains the main market: 68% of global BEV deliveries took place in Europe, followed by China (20%) and the United States (8%).
For CEO Oliver Blume, this milestone represents a significant step in the group’s strategy: “Reaching four million electric vehicles delivered demonstrates that our product offensive is working. It took us about ten years to reach the first million electric cars, while the fourth million was achieved in just one year.”
The group intends to accelerate further with new models and the upcoming “Electric Urban Car Family,” a range of four entry-level electric vehicles aimed primarily at the European market.
