The Countdown Begins for Urban Tech, The Urban Technology Show
30 September 2026Onda Solare will take part in E-Tech Europe 2026.
Emilia 5.9 is a four-seater solar car prototype developed by Onda Solare in collaboration with Alma Mater Studiorum-University of Bologna and the National Centre for Sustainable Mobility (MOST). Belonging to the Cruiser category, the vehicle combines research, innovation and experimentation to bring solar technologies closer to potential applications in everyday mobility.
The vehicle features approximately five square metres of rooftop photovoltaic panels and two electric motors integrated into the wheels. The chassis and most of its components are made from carbon-fibre composite materials, combining lightness and strength. Aerodynamics, energy management and efficiency have been developed alongside cabin practicality, turning Emilia 5.9 into a true mobile laboratory for sustainable mobility.
Behind the project is Team Onda Solare, a multidisciplinary team of engineers, researchers, students, professors, technicians, volunteers and communication specialists. The University of Bologna’s Department of Industrial Engineering and the “A. Ferrari” Higher Education Institute in Maranello also contribute to the project. For the students involved, working on the vehicle provides hands-on learning experience, from mechanical and structural design to on-track testing.
