Milence secures €120 million to accelerate Europe’s electric truck charging network
25 May 2026Rome becomes the stage for Ferrari’s future. Exactly 79 years after the historic 125 S claimed its first victory at the Baths of Caracalla, the Maranello-based automaker yesterday unveiled the Ferrari Luce in the Italian capital, its first fully electric supercar. More than just a high-performance EV, the project aims to redefine Ferrari’s very identity in the age of electrification.
The new Luce ushers in an unprecedented phase for the brand: a fully electric architecture, four independent motors, genuine five-seat capacity, and a level of technological integration never before seen in a road-going Ferrari.
The strategy, announced in previous years, remains one of “technological neutrality”: electric power does not replace internal combustion engines, but rather expands the brand’s technical and emotional vocabulary. The Luce stands as the manifesto of this philosophy.
Beneath the bodywork debuts an entirely in-house-developed platform featuring a structural 122 kWh battery pack and an 800-volt architecture. The figures are hypercar-level: 1,050 horsepower, 0–100 km/h acceleration in just 2.5 seconds, a top speed exceeding 310 km/h, and a range of more than 530 km.
The powertrain uses four independent electric motors – one for each wheel – working together with active suspension, advanced torque vectoring, and four-wheel steering. According to Ferrari, the result is handling capable of combining extreme precision with ease of driving, while preserving the engaging character typical of Maranello sports cars even without the traditional V8 or V12 soundtrack.
At the heart of the system is a new Vehicle Control Unit that coordinates motors, chassis setup, and torque management up to 200 times per second. Through the steering-wheel paddles, the driver can modulate acceleration delivery and regenerative braking intensity to recreate sensations that feel more “mechanical” compared to conventional EVs.
Innovative sound and design
Ferrari has also devoted considerable attention to the most delicate issue for an electric sports car: sound. The Luce uses a proprietary system that captures real vibrations from mechanical components and amplifies them dynamically. The result is described as an “authentic and functional” sound, far removed from the artificial effects often adopted in the industry.
The design also marks a break from the past. For the first time, Ferrari entrusted the styling to an external team: the LoveFrom collective led by Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson, already renowned for their work in the Apple universe. The Luce’s silhouette revolves around a large continuous glass house, a sort of transparent “shell” enveloping both cabin and bodywork in a single volume.
The proportions are unusual for a Ferrari: four doors and five genuine seats, made possible by the electric architecture that eliminates the classic transaxle layout. Inside, the cabin focuses on technological minimalism and premium materials, blending mechanical controls, digital surfaces, and a 3,000-watt audio system developed together with Samsung Display.
Efficient aerodynamics and sustainability
On the aerodynamic front, Ferrari describes the car as the most efficient road vehicle ever produced in Maranello. It introduces active aerodynamic elements, intelligent cooling grilles, and a suspension setup capable of automatically lowering the vehicle at high speeds to reduce drag.
The Prancing Horse company is also placing strong emphasis on industrial sustainability: the structure uses large quantities of recycled aluminum, and Ferrari claims a 70% reduction in CO₂ emissions during production compared to traditional manufacturing processes.
“With Ferrari Luce, we once again redefine the limits of what is possible,” said Ferrari Chairman John Elkann. “We are not simply presenting a new car, but opening a chapter that transforms our vision into reality, reinforcing Ferrari’s tradition of anticipating and shaping the future. Such a leap forward in product innovation could only arise from innovation in process as well: this is why we chose to embark on new collaborations, such as the one with LoveFrom for the design. And, as always, our research and engineering excellence have been placed at the service of driving emotions, without compromise. Rome, the symbolic site of our first victory, becomes the starting point for a Ferrari that illuminates the future and opens new horizons.”
With the Luce, Ferrari officially enters the electric era without abandoning its defining identity. Innovative technologies for the production and recycling of electric and hybrid vehicles for the automotive, transportation, and industrial sectors will be showcased at E-Tech Europe, taking place from October 7 to 9, 2026, at Bologna Exhibition Centre – Italy as part of Urban Tech 2026-The Urban Technology Show, the new event dedicated to e-mobility, traffic, commuting, security, telecommunications & data, and the environment.
